The New Year is a perfect time to reflect, reset, and recharge. One of my key strengths is getting organized. I love to plan ahead, and this allows me to stay calm on a daily basis and work steadily toward my goals. As personal stylists, this is an opportunity to not only organize and prepare for the year ahead but also to elevate your business and personal brand. Here are 10 actionable steps tailored specifically for personal stylists to start the year with purpose and momentum.
Take stock of your successes and challenges from the past year. Reflect on how these align with your personal values and the abundance you want to create in your business and life. What worked well in your styling business? What didn’t? Make a list of milestones you achieved—like growing your client base, launching a new service, or receiving glowing testimonials. To organize your reflections and plan for the year ahead, I highly recommend the Freedom Planner, which I have personally used for several years.
Action Tip: Write down three things you’re proud of and three areas for improvement. Use the Freedom Planner to organize your reflections and outline actionable steps for growth.
As a personal stylist, your wardrobe and tools are extensions of your brand. Dedicate time to declutter your closet and clean out your styling kit. By creating order, you build freedom through structure, giving you stability and room to thrive. Ensure your tools—like measuring tapes, color wheels, and fabric swatches—are in top condition.
Product Recommendation: Kate Spade Storage Boxes – Super stylish, these boxes work as accessories while keeping your items dust-free and organized.
Action Tip: Donate or sell items you no longer use and make a list of tools that need replacing.
Learn how to grow your styling business the right way using the latest marketing and sales information to secure more paid bookings.
Good lighting is everything when it comes to creating a polished and professional online presence. The right lighting not only enhances your appearance but also boosts your confidence to show up more visibly online. Start by auditing your website, social media profiles, and portfolios to ensure they reflect your current brand and showcase your expertise.
Product Recommendation: Ring Light with Stand – A must-have for creating well-lit photos and videos that reflect your professionalism.
Action Tip: Invest in tools that improve your content quality. Update your "About Me" section, refresh outdated photos, and highlight client testimonials with professional-looking visuals.
Visualizing your goals can help you stay focused and motivated. This process encourages transformative growth by helping you uncover and embrace your true potential. I recently ordered this felt vision board, and I’m excited to see how it will help me map out my goals when I return from the Christmas holidays. I love that it comes in different cool colours, is self-adhesive (so no nails required), and even helps with acoustics in my office.
Action Tip: Include images, words, and quotes that resonate with your professional and personal goals. This will keep you inspired and aligned throughout the year.
Do you need to upskill in the area of colour analysis, body shape analysis, or business skills? Investing in yourself is a powerful step toward transformative growth, unlocking your professional and personal potential. I have everything you need to upskill as a personal stylist. Peruse the list of my most popular programs and pop an email to me at aileen@laneimageconsulting.com to take the next step.
Action Tip: Identify the areas you want to grow in and reach out to explore the perfect program for your goals.
Consistency is key when it comes to marketing your styling business. Outline your content strategy for the year, focusing on themes and key dates, such as seasonal fashion trends or back-to-school styling tips. To make planning enjoyable, consider using the Deluxe Weekly Planner by Katie Daisy. Its beautiful design will encourage you to pick it up and use it regularly.
Action Tip: Use this planner to schedule posts, jot down content ideas, and track key events in your styling business calendar.
The New Year is an ideal time to review your pricing structure. Are you charging what you’re worth? Evaluate your pricing not based on competitors but on the authentic value you provide to clients and the abundance you want to achieve. Instead of focusing on competitor prices, consider the return you provide versus the value your clients receive. Do you feel appropriately compensated for your expertise and services? To keep track of your pricing adjustments, you can continue using your Freedom Planner from item #1 or try the Business Planner by Legend Planner, which is super detailed and practical.
Action Tip: Evaluate your compensation by comparing the value you provide to the results your clients experience. Use your planner to document changes and assess their impact.
Your personal style is your calling card. Take time to evaluate your wardrobe and ensure it reflects your brand. Whether you specialize in classic, trendy, or bohemian styles, your look should inspire confidence in your clients. Showcase your signature style on social media to engage and attract your ideal audience.
Product Recommendation: Clothing Rack – Perfect for displaying and planning your outfits.
Action Tip: Plan a few go-to outfits that align with your brand and ensure they’re always ready to wear.
Your existing clients are your best advocates. Reach out to wish them a Happy New Year and remind them of your services. A simple check-in can lead to referrals or repeat business.
Product Recommendation: Sustainable Stationery Set – This elegant and eco-friendly set is perfect for sending thoughtful, heartfelt messages to your clients.
Action Tip: Send personalized emails or handwritten notes to show appreciation.
Your energy and confidence are the foundations of your business. The New Year is a great time to establish self-care rituals that keep you feeling and looking your best.
Product Recommendation: Ultimate Aromatherapy Diffuser & Essential Oil Set – This beautiful set includes a high-quality diffuser and a selection of essential oils to create a calming and rejuvenating atmosphere.
Action Tip: Schedule time for activities that relax and recharge you, like yoga, journaling, or spa treatments.
