The Mindset Shift That Took Me From Stylist to CEO

Primary Blog/The Mindset Shift That Took Me From Stylist to CEO

We all start out as personal stylists because we love the work. We’re passionate about colour, obsessed with style, and driven by the joy of helping others feel amazing in their clothes and in their skin.

But here’s what no one tells you at the beginning: if you want to stay in business—let alone thrive—you can’t stay just a stylist.

Very quickly, you’ll find that you also need to become a savvy businesswoman. A strategic thinker. A content creator. A marketer. A leader.

In other words, you need to step into the role of CEO of your business.

Without making this mindset shift, it’s all too easy to get stuck in hustle mode—chasing clients, undercharging, and wondering why you’re working so hard for so little return. Or worse, your business becomes a very expensive hobby.

I know this because I’ve been there. I loved being a stylist—but when I felt the pull to do something more, to lead, to mentor, to teach—I resisted it. I doubted myself. I questioned whether I was “ready.”

But embracing that pull and making the mindset shift was the turning point. It allowed me to stop playing small and start building a business that lights me up and creates real impact.

In this blog, I’m sharing the 5 key mindset shifts—and action steps—that took me from stylist to CEO, so you can start making them too.

1. Give Yourself Permission to Step Into Bigger Leadership

This is the first and most vital step—and often the hardest. When I felt the pull to mentor other stylists, I didn’t exactly leap at the opportunity. I second-guessed myself constantly.

Was I good enough? Did I really know enough? Wasn’t the industry already full of trainers? What did I have to bring to the table that hadn’t already been said?

It took me a while to realize that these questions were just fear in disguise. They were the inner critic trying to keep me small. And the truth is, none of us wake up one morning magically "ready" for a bigger role. Readiness is cultivated by action, not overthinking.

If you're feeling the pull to lead—trust that it's not random. It's a calling. And you have full permission to follow it.

2. Structure Your Business for Scalability

Once I gave myself permission to lead, I knew I needed to build a business model that didn’t burn me out. Teaching the same thing over and over felt like the fast track to boredom. I wanted to stay inspired, creative, and lit up by my work.

That meant designing everything I created with scalability in mind.

Every program, every training, every piece of content—built not just for today, but for future growth. I leaned into affiliate programs, recurring revenue, and systems that would allow me to support more people without needing to do more one-on-one time.

Yes, affiliate is the right direction—but it must be built with intention. It’s not about mass production. It’s about high impact, high integrity, and clear systems that support both your business and your clients’ results.

3. Don’t Rush Out of Self-Doubt—Take Daily Aligned Action

One of the biggest mistakes I see stylists make is thinking they need to "get over" their self-doubt before taking action.

Nope.

You don’t have to wait until you feel 100% confident to start building something bigger. You just have to take small, consistent steps toward your vision every day. Self-doubt isn’t a sign that you’re not meant to lead. It’s a sign that you’re stretching into new territory.

I still have moments where I feel unsure. But I’ve learned to keep showing up anyway.

Consistency compounds. Even when the going gets tough—even when it feels like no one is watching—your effort is planting seeds that will grow.

4. Pace Yourself—You Don’t Have to Do Everything NOW

This is one I’ve had to learn the hard way (more than once!). When you have a big vision, it’s easy to feel urgency. Like everything has to happen right now or else you’re failing.

But urgency is often fear in disguise.

Mars energy (yes, I love a bit of astrology!) can make you feel like you need to sprint toward your goals. But if you do everything at once, you’ll burn out before you even get close.

Pacing is powerful. Slowing down doesn’t mean you’re falling behind. It means you’re being intentional, strategic, and sustainable. The CEO mindset isn’t about frantic hustle. It’s about calm, grounded leadership.

5. Remember: This is a Rebirth Period. Let Yourself Evolve

The shift from stylist to CEO wasn’t just a business upgrade. It was a personal evolution.

I had to shed old beliefs about who I was allowed to be. I had to let go of the good-girl conditioning that told me to stay small, be nice, and never ask for more. I had to unlearn the idea that success meant pushing harder, doing more, and earning my worth through sacrifice.

Becoming a CEO required a rebirth.

A new version of me had to emerge—one who trusted her voice, claimed her value, and stopped waiting for permission.

If you’re reading this and feel that pull… if you know deep down that you’re meant for more… let yourself evolve. Let yourself outgrow what no longer fits. It’s safe to change. It’s safe to lead.
