I’ve been thinking about trust lately... specifically, what it really means to trust yourself.
Not in the fluffy, inspirational-quote kind of way. I mean deep, grounded trust. The kind you draw on when you’re making a scary decision. The kind that shows up when you bet on yourself, when you leap without guarantees.
It’s a topic that’s come up again and again in my coaching calls lately. So many stylists I work with are in transition; career changes, moving country, starting a business, recovering from heartbreak, stepping into visibility and the thread that connects all of it is this:
We’ve forgotten how to trust ourselves.

Learn how to grow your styling business the right way using the latest marketing and sales information to secure more paid bookings.
If you're anything like the stylists I coach (and if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you are), you’ve probably spent a lot of time looking outside yourself for answers.
You might not even realize you're doing it.
We second-guess our choices. We ask others what they think. We scroll social media, looking for clues about what the “right” thing is. We wait for permission or signs. We say we’re stuck, when really, we’re just afraid we’ll get it wrong.
But here’s the truth I keep coming back to:
No one outside of you knows what’s right for you.
Not your partner, your friend, your mum, your business coach, not even me. I can reflect back to you what I'm hearing. I can guide you, I can show you options but at the end of the day, you have the final say.
The most powerful moves you’ll ever make in your life or business will come from inside you.
You already know what to do. The real work is learning to trust that you know.
I remember a time in my own life when I felt totally unmoored. I was trying to build my business while raising my boys, navigating big life changes, and doing all the “right” things but I kept circling around the same question:
Can I really do this?
The truth was, I didn’t trust myself yet. I still thought someone else had the blueprint, the magic formula, the secret to success.
And then one day it clicked.
What if the only “secret” was choosing to believe in myself even when I felt wobbly?
That was a turning point. From that moment on, every risk I took, every launch I made, every leap into the unknown, I did it from a place of deep, imperfect trust. Not because I was certain of the outcome, but because I was certain I’d figure it out no matter what.
That’s what trusting yourself really means.
It’s not never feeling fear. It’s knowing the fear will come and choosing to act anyway.
So many of us were raised to be “good girls.” To defer to authority. To not make a fuss. To please others. To suppress our intuition.
We were taught to look outward for validation, whether from teachers, partners, bosses, or mentors. And so when life throws us a curveball - divorce, career shift, burnout, motherhood, menopause, we often feel totally lost. Disconnected from who we really are.
That’s why what we do is so powerful. Style is a powerful doorway back to self. I’ve seen it again and again with my clients: they’ve lost their identity, but the process of reconnecting with their style helps them start trusting their own preferences again.
They realize, “I get to choose what feels good on my body. I get to define who I am now.”
This is where the healing begins.
We do it for our clients but what about for ourselves?
How can we build our own trust as entrepreneurs and stylists?
Trusting yourself doesn’t mean leaping off a cliff.
Sometimes it’s as simple as:
• Posting on social media even when you feel awkward
• Saying no to the client that doesn’t feel right
• Choosing rest over hustle
• Wearing the outfit that feels most like you, even if it’s different to whats typically worn in the industry
• Booking the course you know you’re ready for
Each of these acts says: I trust my own voice more than I trust the noise around me.
That’s how you build trust, one tiny, shaky step at a time.
You will get it wrong sometimes. So will I.
But here's the gift: every mistake is a portal. Every misstep teaches you something. And every time you recover, dust yourself off, and try again, your self-trust deepens.
It’s not about never falling. It’s about knowing you’ll rise again.
One of my clients recently shared a fear: “What if I leave my job and I can’t make this work?” I asked her: “What if you could trust yourself to figure it out, step by step, day by day?”
Because that’s how sustainable businesses (and lives) are built - not in some dramatic overnight success, but in the quiet, steady commitment to keep going. To trust that your vision is worth it.
If you’re deep in exhaustion, if life feels like a grind, it’s so much harder to hear your inner voice.
You’re not broken. You’re just tired.
This is where journaling, EFT tapping, creative play, rest, and even simply sitting in silence can help. These aren’t just “nice to haves”, they’re non-negotiables when it comes to learning to hear and trust yourself again.
Because when you’re fried, the voice you hear is fear. But when you’re regulated, grounded, and cared for, the voice that emerges is wisdom.
That’s your true voice.
And it will guide you, if you let it.
Here’s something to try today:
Take a notebook, sit quietly for a moment, and ask yourself:
What do I know to be true, right now?
Don’t censor yourself. Don’t overthink it. Just write what comes up.
It might be:
• “I know I’m meant for more.”
• “I know this job is draining me.”
• “I know I’m tired.”
• “I know I’m ready.”
• “I know I can figure this out.”
Let that be your compass for today.
I’ve seen it over and over again in my clients, in my community, and in myself.
The women who begin to trust themselves, even just a little, become unstoppable.
❣️They stop needing constant reassurance.
❣️They get bolder in their marketing.
❣️They raise their prices.
❣️They create offers that light them up.
❣️They speak up.
❣️They show up.
And slowly but surely, their lives begin to reflect the inner belief they’ve cultivated.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about permission to be the leader of your own life.
If you’re waiting for a sign that it’s time to trust yourself again, this is it.
That dream of yours? That version of your life where you work with clients you love, from a villa in the sun (or your kitchen table in Dublin or a beach café in Bali)?
That starts with one decision:
💫To believe in yourself.
💫To take the next right step.
💫To know that no matter what happens, you’ll find your way.
You always have.
