Primary Blog/Unleashing your inner confidence: Tips for overcoming imposter syndrome

Building confidence is the secret sauce that can elevate your personal styling business to new heights.
Imagine the impact of showing up in your business as your authentic self, speaking as you would to a friend—it's magnetic. Confidence has the transformative power to draw people, especially clients, towards you, giving you a magnetic presence in your industry.

Ask yourself this: Do you crave more confidence?
What would you do differently if you possessed unwavering confidence?
Picture that one thing that could make a significant difference in your life.
Would you boldly demand higher fees for your services or seek out more clients?
Perhaps, it extends beyond your professional realm—maybe you'd gather the courage to ask that special someone on a date?

In a recent Facebook Live session, I posed this question, and the responses were insightful:

"If I had more confidence, I would step out of my comfort zone and not seek validation from others."

"I would have more courage to showcase my passion for color to a broader audience."

"I would be more at ease selling my services."

What about you? Identify one thing that resonates with you—it might feel peculiar at first, but bear with me. To cultivate confidence, you must actively engage in that identified activity.

Take a moment to reflect: What's that one thing you'd do? Now, take action.

Embarking on that journey and facing the fear will inevitably boost your confidence. In business, we all encounter moments where we must feel the fear and do it anyway. It's like exercising a muscle—you strengthen it over time.

You might be thinking, "It's easy for you, Aileen; you exude confidence." While it's true that I am more confident now, it didn't happen overnight. Let me share a story from my past.

Before becoming a stylist, I worked in manufacturing. I pursued color analysis through an online program and, armed with my newfound knowledge, attempted to promote myself. However, I felt out of place and lacked the know-how to turn my skills into a thriving business.

Leaving a secure job for the unpredictable world of styling was daunting. The suggestion to collaborate with local boutiques for clients intrigued me. I secured an opportunity to do a color demonstration at a local shop. Despite my qualifications, I was terrified—doubting my skills and fearing public speaking.

The experience was nerve-wracking; I trembled, palms sweaty. But I survived. Nobody immediately booked my services, yet over the next six months, clients trickled in. The boutique owner was pleased, and it marked the beginning of my journey.

The lesson? Confidence isn't acquired through books or courses—it comes from action. The more you step out of your comfort zone, the more your confidence grows.

Here are 6 practical tips to help you take action and boost your confidence:

[1] Break it down: Divide intimidating tasks into smaller steps. Focus on the first step and take it today.

[2]Identify fears: Acknowledge and write down your fears. Understand that facing them will make you stronger.

[3]Seek support: Join communities or groups where you can seek guidance and support. Collaboration is empowering.

[4]Become an expert: Specialize in a niche area. This focus makes your marketing messages more targeted, attracting the right audience.

[5]Adopt routines: Establish consistent routines in your business. This helps you stay in control and fosters confidence.

[6]Read 'Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway': Susan Jeffers' book is a valuable resource. Use it as a tool to complement your action, not as an excuse to avoid it.

Remember, the journey to confidence is a process. Embrace it, practice consistently, and watch your confidence soar. Life is short—don't hold back. Your unique talents can make a difference; it's your duty to share them with the world. Get out there and do your thing! ❤️
