As someone who prides themselves on consistency and commitment, both in life and in guiding personal stylists to achieve their business goals, facing a week of illness has been more than just physically challenging. It's tested the resilience of my routine and my ability to support my clients. I wanted to share this experience and some tips on how to manage your business when unexpected health issues arise.
Acknowledge Your Health
First and foremost, it’s crucial to acknowledge that your health needs to come first. As coaches, we often preach about prioritizing tasks, yet we sometimes forget to prioritize ourselves. This week reminded me that without health, there can be no hustle. Allow yourself the necessary time to rest and recover—it’s not just okay, it’s essential.
Communicate Transparently
Your clients will understand. Transparency fosters trust. When I realized I was too sick to maintain my usual pace, I communicated this to my clients. I explained that there would be a temporary slow-down in my responsiveness and why. The outpouring of support and understanding was both reassuring and heartwarming.
Use Automation and Delegation
Thank goodness for technology and teamwork! Automating social media posts and relying on pre-prepared content can be a lifesaver in times when you can't be fully present. If you have a team, delegate tasks that keep the business flowing. It’s okay to lean on others.
Prepare for the Unexpected
One lesson from this is the importance of having a 'sick day' plan. Just like any employee benefits from sick leave, entrepreneurs should plan for off days. This includes having emergency contacts, backup plans for meetings or sessions, and instructions ready for team members or assistants.
Reflect and Learn
Every challenge is an opportunity for growth. Being temporarily sidelined is a chance to evaluate the robustness of your business operations. How well does your business run without your constant oversight? Use this time to think about ways to improve your contingency plans.
Prioritize Self-Care
Finally, remember that self-care isn’t just a recovery tool; it's a preventive measure. Incorporate regular health assessments, wellness activities, and ‘mental health days’ into your schedule to maintain your well-being, ensuring you're always at your best—or close to it.
As I write this, I’m reminded of the resilience we all possess, and the incredible support systems we often take for granted. To my fellow coaches and stylists, remember that it's not about avoiding obstacles but learning to navigate them gracefully. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time❣️
